Some Insurance Carriers to Continue Some ACA Provisions
Humana and United Health Care are leading the pack in announcing that regardless of what happens with the Supreme Court ruling on Affordable Care act (ACA), they will continue to offer some of the provisions under the controversial law.
The provisions are:
- eliminate lifetime dollar limits on policies,
- cover preventive services with no out-of-pocket costs, permit dependent coverage for children up to age 26
- provide a clear and simplified process for appealing claims decisions
- eliminate rescission of individual coverage except for failure to timely pay premiums or as covered under the law in cases of fraud or intentional misrepresentation of a material fact.
There is also discussion lead by United Health Care about covering children under age 19 who have pre-existing conditions on the plans. We expect that other major carriers will also follow with some or all of the same provisions as these make fiscal sense for all involved. Humana has also indicated that they will encourage those who self-insure through them should also consider keeping these provisions.
